Tinsely Mortimer

I wish I knew why so many people get directed to this site looking for Tinsley Mortimer. Who the fuck is she? I gather some sort of NYC socialite, but why are people always googling her? I swear, the majority of B12 Partners web site hits (with the exception of the recent spike because of the Seattle Times & Tami Silicio flag-draped coffin story) are people looking for Tinsley Mortimer, who is mentioned in a Barbara Bush pelvic thrusting party story (archived here)

Tinsley Mortimer

Now playing in iTunes: Vacuum Cleaner, from the album Acid Drops, Spacedust & Flying Saucers: Psychedelic Confectionery by Tintern Abbey (released 1967)

update 12/4/05 from the NYT:

a few days before the Winter Wonderland Ball at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx on Friday, Tinsley Mortimer will go to pick out her dress. One of six junior chairwomen of the party, Ms. Mortimer will not be visiting Bergdorf Goodman or Saks Fifth Avenue; she will drop by the showroom of Paco Rabanne to chose a dress from the spring collection designed by Patrick Robinson, which will be lent to her for the night.

Since her marriage three years ago to Robert L. Mortimer, an executive at a private investment group, Ms. Mortimer, 29, has become ubiquitous on the circuit of charity dinners, luncheons and boutique openings in New York. A search of the Web site New York Social Diary (newyorksocialdiary.com) brings back 82 hits, mostly party photos, including one from August with a caption calling her the "glam girl of the moment."

With her cascade of blond hair and lithe figure, Ms. Mortimer, a former event planner, attracts the cameras, a fact not lost on fashion designers, who have lined up to lend her dresses, knowing that the photos that appear in newspapers and magazines bring valuable publicity.

As a pro at this game Ms. Mortimer expects the whole visit to Paco Rabanne - including a seamstress's alteration of the dress she picks - to be quicker than a pit stop at Barneys New York. "I'm pretty aware of what looks good on me," she said, "so it usually only takes me 30 to 40 minutes to find a dress."

It used to be that philanthropically inclined young women like Ms. Mortimer, who is on the fund-raising committees of seven charities and cultural institutions, bought their own gowns for the seasonal galas.

But now many designers lend the gowns in a Manhattan version of the wooing of actresses to serve as clothes hangers on the red carpets of Hollywood.

Tinsley is a Socialist

'Post:' Tinsley Mortimer, Ardent Socialist - Gawker :
In this lengthy interview, Tinsley Mortimer shares her thoughts about the works of Marx and Engels. PSYCH! The Post has no idea what the word 'socialist' means, and Tinsley Mortimer gives the most retarded quotes imaginable. Seriously, more retarded than you are currently imagining them to be.

Yes, product of the finest boarding schools indeed. Maybe she voted for Bernie Sanders?

and I wonder what this means:
And while she has plenty of fans, the posts by detractors can be vicious - mocking her appearance, her intelligence, her absentee spouse. “She looks like a thoroughly nouveau plebe,” read one post, probably the worst thing one can say about a social.

“Obviously it's all sort of in good fun,” Mortimer says, struggling to be polite. “It's humorous. But unfortunately, I think it's a little sad. Those anomynous” - here she wincingly mispronounces the word - “posted comments are just not very nice sometimes. And to give someone free reign to be anomynous and say whatever they want and lie - that's hurtful.”

On the other hand, to paraphrase Columbia: Whatever.

from the NYPost 8/16/07

SHAME on media-hungry socialites Tinsley Mortimer and Olivia Palermo.
Planners of Tuesday's Level Vodka gala, "Rip the Runway for Darfur," to benefit the war-torn Sudanese region at the new club Runway on East 28th Street had to scramble when host Lydia Hearst fell ill.
Organizers ended up calling Mortimer and Palermo for backups, and the two at first agreed to show - until each of them found out the other was involved.
"When Olivia heard that Tinsley was coming and Tinsley heard that Olivia was coming, both suddenly were unable to attend," one organizer told us.
"We think the only people who truly suffered from their selfish no-shows are the poor citizens of war-torn Darfur." Designers for Darfur co-founder Malcolm Harris eventually filled in as host.
An old social type added, "Brooke Astor would roll in her grave if she heard that this is what has happened to society and charity. It's disgraceful. These girls these days know nothing about giving back. They just know how to promote themselves."
The rivalry between Mortimer and Palermo goes back to the days when socialiterank.com was around and the two vied for the spot of No. 1 social heavyweight. Mortimer's jealousy of her younger, prettier rival spilled into violence last April when she physically elbowed Palermo to the ground during a fashion show.

I can verify that she is a real self-centered b!tch. She actually wore this pink chiffon ball-gown to my friend's small, quaint beach wedding. She is one of those girls who HAS to stand-up the bride. On the other hand, Fabian Batiste was also there and was an absolute doll.

Anyone who defends her equally so. More people need to understand one thing. If the world was under attack, and the human population needed to be cultivated on another planet, with few candidates available...do you really think there would be a use for a spoiled ex-events planner? You can put the newest, most expensive, most fabulous designer gown on a mountain of feces, and anyway you look at it, it's just a glorified piece of shit.

okay, so they both come from money. they met at a private prep school in n.j. these places churn out people who tend to adopt a certain lifestyle in the same manner that some poor communities turn out enlisted men and women for the u.s. armed forces.

i came wondering who she was, also. i kept looking because i was interested in learning how both families made their money. so, it seems that the hubby's family comes from standard oil money - old school new england aristocrats of sorts. her dad's money comes from the real estate investment firm.

that information's about as useful as her latest party attendance. why criticize her whenshe's just another cog in an engine that's been turning before any of us arrived here and will likely continue turning after we're gone. her personality is really immaterial.

WEDDINGS;

Tinsley Mercer, Topper Mortimer

Published: May 5, 2002

Tinsley Randolph Mercer, a daughter of Dale T. Mercer of Richmond, Va., and George R. Mercer Jr. of Palm Beach, Fla., was married yesterday to Robert Livingston Mortimer, a son of Senga M. Mortimer and John Jay Mortimer of New York. Canon Robert G. Hetherington performed the ceremony at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond.

The couple, both 26, met as students at the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Mrs. Mortimer graduated from Columbia. She is an account executive in New York at Harrison & Shriftman, a public relations firm. Her mother is an interior designer in Richmond, where the bride's father is a principal in the George-Marshall Corporation, a real estate investment concern.

Mr. Mortimer, who is known as Topper, graduated from New York University. He is a vice president for marketing at the Guggenheim Group, an investment banking concern in New York. His mother is the senior editor at House Beautiful magazine in New York.

The bridegroom is a great-grandson of Henry Morgan Tilford, a president of the Standard Oil Company of California and an early resident of Tuxedo Park, N.Y.; he is also a descendant of John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States.

I could not agree more with the comment about tinsleys past. Daddy is about as virginia red as it comes. Oh he talks about the days growing up in virginias largest house, well I have been there it is called graymont and it is all front lawn jammed in to the back of another neighborhood, and when they went to sell it, the contract was in default because the house was infested with termites. Rednecks, yes how about Tins aunt Mary Rutherfoord who flies a rebel flag in 2006.

Tinsley and Dabney grew up in a beautiful 10,000 sq. ft. house on 7 acres that was on the Garden Club tour since it was decorated in such impeccable taste, their mother being an interior designer. George and Dale were known to be such perfectionist and the house was beautiful inside and out! This is why someone came to them one day and asked if they could buy the house even though it wasn't for sale. They basically made the Mercers an offer they couldn't refuse and since the girls were basically grown up and they didn't need such a large place they decided to sell. The Mercers had a year to find a new property while the soon to be new owners had architects and builders repeatedly inside to make plans to expand the house. Even after a whole year of inspections, neither they nor the termite inspection found any termites. Once the Mercers moved out into their new house, the house was gutted and it was then that a little termite damage was found when walls were opened up. Anyone who knew George would laugh to think that he wouldn't take care of anything he knew that was wrong with the house. The sale was not in default. The new owners ended up selling the house and never moved in. It was a tragedy for such a beautiful estate to be torn up. The lawyers were the only ones who won with this lawsuit.

Tinsley Mortimer has put herself in the public eye. She obviously enjoys being seen and photographed. If she doesn't enjoy the negative publicity then she should remove herself from the public eye. Many of you who are defending her should remember that she brought this on herself. Tinsley needs to be a big girl and take the good with the bad. Life is not perfect. Not even for a Mortimer.

Does Tinsley Mortimer care a flying f... what you guys are saying? I googled her when reading an article on "Slate" in which she was mentioned ( positively) and wanted to know who she was- I came across pictures of her - in none of which she was looking like a witch, spoilt brat or even "full of it" as some of you might claim..
Sounds like sour grapes to me - and I am looking forward to meeting her because even though I live in the Caribbean and therefore might not be thought "rich" I certainly consider myself able to mingle with anyone - so I don't have to hate Tinsley for her looks, I might envy her for being so slim, but she looks like a pretty decent, happy, rich girl to me and Good for her, I say.

The fact that you see pictures of her and she is in the public domain doesn't mean you can sling mud at her for no reason, and if I were to be googled and your response was to sling mud at me, I would simply ignore your silly envious comments..by the way my name is Faith Blackwood, google away!

Tinsley doesn't have to care - but your question is like asking me "since the average 5 year old isn't worried , why are you concerned about child molesters?" Because I hate injustice of any kind. What else has she accomplished besides marrying a rich man, taking his last name and investing his money in black tie dinners, fellow memberships at Fine Art museums, and pricey society events? I give Ms. Motimer credit for merging herself into the elite circle of the rich and famous. After all she is a blond girl from Virginia who has turned herself into an international celebrity. I went to a boarding school with girls like her. They are sent off to these schools in order to "get in" with the rich, gonna-be socialite NYC crowd. Then they go off to an IVY and if they don't leave with a ring on their finger, it's shameful. They go to work at Christie's or a similar place and then as soon as they get married, quit their jobs, to do just what Miss Tinsley does (what kind of name is that anyway ... reminds me of tinsel ...) which is what exactly??

If she really wanted to "give back", she'd be donating all that money she spends (or the designer spends on the materials) to a real cause, or actually getting down and dirty with the people who need help, rather than taking pretty pictures in fur-trimmed dresses.
