Dishwasher tips

Cross-posted

It cost us a $110 service call from Abt, but now at least we know the following tip: run a dishwasher cycle with about a half-cup of vegetable oil every year to remove soap buildup which can constrict water pressure and lead to a non-functioning dishwasher. Also, this apparently helps various gaskets and valves have a longer life.

Dishwashers also like to have a yearly dose of vinegar to clean out and sanitize various food traps.

Thanks, Adam (our Abt guy).

Also, no thanks to you Whirpool, for making soap dispensers larger than they need to be, so that everyone overfills the dish soap, inevitably leading to soap buildup, and cruddy dishes, and service calls....

Where do you put the oil? In the soap dispenser? How full should the soap dispenser be?

uh, run the machine until some water is in the bottom, add the oil into it (our guy added in both corners, probably not necessary). As far as soap, he told us to use 1/4-1/2 of what the dispenser uses.

our guy, Adam, put the oil in the bottom, after running the machine for a few moments (water in the bottom).
As far as the soap, 1/4-1/2 full.
