Zidane of France throws a massive head butt to his arch-rival, Materazzi of Italy, in the World Cup Final 2006. Only seen this clip 15 times, or more. Felt I should share.

and a longer clip with closeups, and British commentary.

Busy day for me, sick pet, lots of work.

Hope it isn't some neurological problem.

It's certainly possible that Metarazzi said something wholly despicable, but verbal abuse worthy of such a reaction is hard to imagine. I really enjoyed the World Cup until that moment, which cast a shadow over the entire event, not to mention over Zidane's wonderful career.

Personally, I thought that a clever retort on the part of Zidane.

It certainly had dramatic flair--in particular Zidane's running ahead only to charge back like a bull fed up with the red cape.

I watched Italy v. France in the Euro Cup Final in 2000 from a dive pub somewhere on the west coast of Ireland. The Italian goalkeep got a bloodied face in that match.
