Led Zeppelin to Reunite for Ertegun

When I was concerned about burnishing my Indie Cred, Led Zeppelin was a semi-guilty pleasure. Now that I could give a shite about my Indie Cred (and since Zepp is now cool in a way they were not in the late 80s), I just consider that Zepp made 3-4 great albums, and a few more really good ones, and they all sound great turned up fracking loud.

I'd love to be a jet-setter, and attend this show, even though it might suck.

Led Zeppelin to Reunite for Ertegun Tribute -- chicagotribune.com:

Led Zeppelin will perform a one-time comeback concert in memory of Ahmet Ertegun, a co-founder of Atlantic Records.

The band will perform together for the first time in 19 years on Nov. 26, at London's The O2 venue, on the banks of the River Thames.

Promoters said the concert would pay tribute to Ertegun -- the label boss who popularized Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Led Zeppelin -- who died in December at age 83.

Mr. Ertegun was a record executive who I respected, a dying breed. Oh, and remember this story?

I went through a decade of avoiding Zeppelin because I'd heard it way too much. Now I'm rediscovering just how great they were.

Wish they'd hired Simon Phillips or Dave Lombardo to play drums--or Dennis Chambers. Jason Bonham sucks, despite having the genetics of an insanely gifted rock drummer.

I don't think I've ever heard Jason Bonham play, at least can't think of it. Plant looks pretty aged in that photo, perhaps Page is as well. The actual show will probably be lame-o, as these things usually are. I'd still like to go, but fat chance.

In the late '80s I saw Page solo and Jason Bonham was on drums. Page was drunk and barely capable of staying on his stool. Bonham was a Tommy Lee knock-off whose gimmick was having the lights turned out while his electronic drum kit continued playing and he would appear at the front of the stage in a spotlight, congratulating himself for this astonishing wizardry.

I have heard that Plant has recorded a song with Alison Krauss. I'm interested in hearing that.

Of the two, post 1985, seems like Plant had the more interesting career. I liked his most recent album with the Strange Sensation (allmusic review for instance). Some good desert blues. Not a desert island disc, mind you, but still pretty good. Page is locked into his home studio with Crowley paraphernalia, remastering the Zepp catalog to sell it again.
