Reviews W Part 4 the Wilco edition

Another day, another few CDs listened to....

Wilco

A Ghost is Born

A Ghost is Born

If you payed attention, several alternative or live versions were made available via the Wilco web site, if you had the physical CD to stick into a computer. Jeff Tweedy has become much more confident playing electric guitar, that's for sure. Is it as good as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? Yes, but obviously not just a side B of that album. I just wish the Lounge Ax was still open. Damn that new yuppie neighbor!

Every Wilco album is different. This one, the first, is probably the weakest of the bunch. Roots rock, Cosmic American music, whatever you want to call it. A solid B effort, but listen-able. Wilco descended from Uncle Tupelo, in this album at least.

Being There
Being There
Double album, evidencing a large creative growth by Jeff Tweedy. Little bit of everything here, Cosmic American music, melancholy indie rock, some squalls of feed-back, etc.

Summer Teeth
Summer Teeth
A 'classic' pop album, full of hooks. Not much alt-country here at all. I agree with the Allmusic review: this is like a Robbie Robertson/Band album, made with 90's sensibilities.

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Not quite as interesting as the Conet Project, and difficult to extract from all the mythology re being fired by their label for making too weird of an album, discard all the extra cultural and historical baggage, and it is still a great album. Centuries away from A.M. in a more interesting space.
