Political theatre, at its best/worst.

Activist refuses deportation, takes refuge in church
A prominent activist for illegal immigrants in Chicago today defied a government order that she turn herself in to the Department of Homeland Security for deportation and instead took sanctuary in a West Side church.

Saying she would not be returned to Mexico, Elvira Arellano — an illegal immigrant — said she would go with her young son to the church, Adalberto United Methodist Church, 2176 W. Division St.
...
“If Homeland Security chooses to send agents to a holy place, I would know that God wants me to serve as an example of the hatred and hypocrisy of the current administration,” Arellano said.

Umm, you know the answer to that already, Ms. Arellano. I despise over-simplification, but am going to indulge in it anyway: there are no real Christians in the Bush Administration. Only those who use a perverted form of Christianity as cover for their greed, venality and mendacity.

Is helping Mexico's corrupt oligarchy profit from their excess population really "Christian"?

How about allowing illegal immigration to occur and thus encouraging people to cross the desert, resulting in hundreds of border deaths?

How about encouraging political corruption in the U.S.?

Things get quite a bit more complicated when you look at the big picture.

Immigration encourages political corruption in the US? Interesting assertion.

Why do you think almost all politicians do what those companies that profit from illegal immigration want, and don't do what the vast majority of citizens want?

Companies that profit from illegal immigration donate to candidates who then do what those companies want: avoid enforcing our immigration laws. That is political corruption, and illegal immigration is corrupting our entire political system.

So you are saying that Wal-Mart is the cause of all of our political corruption? Seems like a bit of a stretch. And wouldn't a Christian want to help immigrants as many of them are quite poor? I thought a main directive of Christ was to help the poor?

I would doubt my mental faculties the day I believed that man in the oval office is a christian. I will never forget his wicked giggle over the woman sentenced to death in TX.

An ethical individual wouldn't have sent our troops abroad on a lie. Or made up stories about the missing explosives, which actually showed up exploding a vehicle and nine soldiers. By then, election day was gone. Kerry had been right all the time. Our media sux big time too. I can barely read the paper anymore.
